Job Title: National Coordinator for Healing & Transforming Communities

The National Coordinator is a member of the Healing
and Transforming Communities unit of the American Baptist Home Mission Societies
(ABHMS). This unit works to identify and engage partners in advocacy, liberation, and care
for one another, through a shared commitment to unconditional love for all God’s people
created in God’s image and entitled to equity, civility, equal opportunity, well-being, and
respect in society. The National Coordinator within Healing and Transforming
Communities is responsible for nurturing new and existing mission partnerships, raising
Christian awareness about justice issues, convening leaders, promoting ABHMS
resources, and encouraging discipleship that leads to healing and transformation in the
communities where they serve. The National Coordinator will fulfill responsibilities in all
areas of this unit and lead in at least two of the following areas:
Disaster Response/Emergency Preparedness: Offering a generous and caring witness of
readiness and crisis response.
Experiential Learning: Cultivating leaders who show love through discipleship in action.
Public Witness and Advocacy: Promoting justice for all through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ministry Networks: Convening historic and new partners who are addressing missional
needs, disrupting cycles of poverty, marginalization, and displacement, and bringing hope
to underrepresented and underserved communities.
The National Coordinator is a fulltime exempt professional-level position, based at the
Leadership and Mission Building LAMB in King of Prussia, PA and reports to the Director
of Healing and Transforming Communities.
Essential Education and Experience Requirements
• Graduate-level training in theology and other areas of Christian ministry, with a deep
understanding of Baptist polity and identity and Biblical justice.
• Minimum of three (3) years of effective networking within diverse and multicultural
settings and beyond a single local congregation.
• Minimum of three (3) years of successful volunteers engagement, advocacy or
education work, youth and/or community program leadership, and/or development
and project management experience.
Skills and Qualifications
• To be successful in this role, the individual must understand, appreciate, and work
diligently to advance the mission vision, values, and goals of ABHMS.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills with
diverse audiences.
• Proficient writing and conversational skills in English. (Bilingual or multi-lingual
proficiency a plus)
• Dependable, attentive to detail, self-motivated with an ability to complete tasks with
minimal supervision while also working collaboratively toward achievement of goals.
• Ability to advance several initiatives at the same time and effectively manage
administrative details.
• Applies critical analysis, creative thinking, resiliency, and agility to address challenges and
trends.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software and Internet applications required and has the
ability to learn new technologies.
• Strong professional ethics and commitment to confidentiality.
• Possess intellectual curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning.
• Willingness and ability to learn and adapt within changing contexts and complex, national,
faith-based setting.
• Ability to promote a positive working environment through strong collaboration,
cooperation, and effective conflict resolution with diverse colleagues.
• Ability to work consistent hours at the Leadership and Mission Building. Evenings or
weekends may be required as needed. Willingness to travel across the United States and
Puerto Rico for work-related trips.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist the Director of Healing and Transforming Communities in the design,
implementation, and assessment of the unit initiatives.
• Develop and deepen mutually beneficial relationships with clergy and lay leaders, both
established and emerging, across the ABHMS constituency who are involved with
community outreach, justice and advocacy, disaster response and emergency
preparation.
• Regularly convene assigned networks to facilitate coast-to-coast impact and
leadership development.
• Track and develop best practices for use in the development of educational
resources for Center for Continuous Learning and MinistrElife.
• Represent ABHMS, as assigned, at regional and national events, committees and/or
boards with consistent reporting to unit Director.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
